Actress Kate Hudson was recently doing an interview with Hugh Jackman for FOX 5 DC about their new movie, Song Sung Blue, when she was suddenly asked about the death of one of her past collaborators, Rob Reiner.
The news channel anchor said to Hudson, "I have to ask you about this, Kate, Alex & Emma, of course, the dramedy that you did with Rob Reiner. We lost him over the weekend. What's going through your heart and mind after his passing?"
"Oh, it's too much to discuss on television," said Hudson as she started getting visibly emotional. "But he was the best man, and we're gonna miss him."
Jackman sat beside Hudson, watching her as she spoke. With a concerned look on his face, he patted her shoulder to comfort her as she took a moment to collect herself. The news anchor then asked Jackman to comment on the recent shooting at Bondi Beach in Australia.
Hudson worked with the late director on the 2003 film Alex & Emma, which Reiner directed and starred in. The movie follows Luke Wilson as Alex Sheldon, a struggling writer who hires a woman named Emma, played by Hudson, who is a stenographer, to help him finish his novel. Reiner played the character Wirschafter.
The movie is loosely based on the true story of how Fyodor Dostoevsky's book The Gambler came together.

When Alex & Emma came out, Reiner spoke about the project with Charlie Rose on his eponymous talk show, saying, "I love this movie because I've made a lot of romanticcomedies and it's hard to find a good, original, fresh idea. And when this came to my attention, I thought, 'Wow, what a clever way to tell a romantic comedy story.'"
Reiner was also full of praise for Hudson during the interview. When Rose asked if "Kate Hudson is the new Meg Ryan," the director declared, "Well, I think she's the new Kate Hudson. I mean, she is extraordinary."
"She lights up the room. She does all those classic things that you want a movie star to do...She's a wonderful actress, both comedically and dramatically. It's almost not fair that somebody should have this much stuff going on," he went on.
Along with Alex & Emma, Reiner is known for helming many fantastic movies, including Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, Misery, and more. He was also an accomplished actor, most well-known for his role in the 1970s sitcomAll in the Family.
