The Rolling Stones have called off plans for a 2026 stadium tour of the U.K. and Europe, Variety has confirmed.
While the tour was never formally announced, the band had been widely expected to return to the road following the release of Hackney Diamonds, their most recent album. A source close to the band told Variety that the plans have now been scrapped after discussions stalled internally.
According to reports in the U.K., the decision came after guitarist Keith Richards was unable to commit to the demands of another large-scale tour.

“When they properly sat down to discuss the tour, Keith said he didn’t think he could commit and wasn’t keen on a big stadium tour for over four months,” an unnamed American music critic told The Sun on Monday.
An unnamed spokesperson added, “The band were looking to tour earlier this year but couldn’t make it work either. It’s hard for their fans, but The Stones will get back onstage when they’re good and ready.”
Richards, who turns 82 on December 18, has spoken openly in recent years about dealing with arthritis, which he told the BBC was “benign” but said has forced him to adjust his playing style.

"Funnily enough, I've no doubt it has [affected my playing], but I don't have any pain, it's a sort of benign version. I think if I've slowed down a little bit it's probably due more to age," said Richards, adding, "And also, I found that interesting, when I'm like, 'I can't quite do that anymore,' the guitar will show me there's another way of doing it. Some finger will go one space different and a whole new door opens. And so you're always learning. You never finish school, man."
The Rolling Stones have toured almost every year since the early 2000s, though their itineraries have gradually shortened as the band members have aged. The group’s core lineup includes Mick Jagger, 82, Ron Wood, 78, and Richards. Original drummer Charlie Watts died in 2021 and was replaced by longtime Richards collaborator Steve Jordan.
Their most recent outing was the Hackney Diamonds tour, which brought the band across North America for 20 stadium shows spread over three months.

Despite the canceled tour plans, the band appears to be moving forward creatively. The Stones are reportedly close to completing a new album, their second with producer Andrew Watt.
“I knew that Andy and I could work together as soon as we met,” Jagger told Variety last year. “He has such infectious enthusiasm and a great work ethic, plus he’s a great musician too. We immediately clicked and made what I thought was going to be a tough job into a fun and easy one.”
Richards added, “Andrew has a contagious vitality about him coupled with an unrelenting enthusiasm, which is one of the great qualities of a producer. Also, he was great fun to work with, another great quality!”
For now, fans hoping to see the Stones back onstage will have to wait.
