Thousands of cases of popular salad dressings have been recalled, according an enforcement report from the Food and Drug Administration, due to “foreign objects” found inside some of the ingredients.
The recall, from California-based Ventura Foods, was first initiated Nov. 11, the report said, with the FDA on Dec. 4 identifying the recall as a “Class II” out of three levels. A “Class II” recall means the product could lead to temporary and adverse health consequences, the FDA said.
According to the enforcement report, 3,556 cases of salad dressing, including the well-known Hidden Valley Ranch, were recalled due to “black plastic planting material” found within the dressing’s granulated onion. The dressing were distributed to seven retailers and food courts across 42 states, including Illinois, the FDA said.
It wasn’t immediately clear which retailers the recalled produts were distributed to, but some were sold at Costco, the enforcement report said. Earlier this year, Costco and Venutra Foods initiated a recall of Caesar salads sold in the deli section of stores in the Midwest due to the “possible presence of plastic foreign material in the dressing.”
