When it comes to giving gifts, Garth Brooks puts a lot of thought into planning out the gesture. And, he has proven that to his wife, Trisha Yearwood, as she recently revealed the country music icon spent an entire year thinking about the gift he was going to give to one of her family members at Christmas.
The “Walkaway Joe” singer, 61, recently sat down with CMT, where she revealed via a video that Brooks carefully plotted the present as part of a holiday gag-gift exchange known in her family as “Silly Santa,” a game similar to Dirty Santa or White Elephant.
While Yearwood didn’t specify who received the present or exactly when it was given, she made it clear that the moment has gone down as the “funniest gift” she’s ever witnessed.
“The first Christmas that I took Garth with me to my big family was Silly Santa. We didn’t really have — our gift wasn’t very funny,” Yearwood remembered the married couple’s first experience with the game. “You know, everyone does those Christmas gifts where you have to bring someone something silly, like Silly Santa or whatever, and you can only spend $20. I can’t remember what we took.”
However, for the second Christmas, Brooks made sure he was prepared.
Garth Brooks Kept a Box of Beat Head Phones for the Moment
“He thought about it for a whole year,” Yearwood acknowledged of how her husband was determined to not make the same mistake twice before explaining the hilarious prank Garth had planned out for the next go-around.
Remembering the $20 spending cap, Brooks ended up storing a box from a pair of Beats headphones.
“We had some of those Beats headphones, and he saved the box," Yearwood confirmed, adding. “.... So when that person who picked that package up opened it, and they saw the Beats box, they were so excited.”
However, that excitement didn’t last very long.
"When they opened the box, they were Beats,” Yearwood added of the popular brand of audio gear.
Then, pointing out that they weren't actually the kind of beats that the person had expected, she said, “It was 2 cans of beets, and they were tied with a string, and that was the funniest gift that I've ever seen."
