Jimmy Kimmel delivered a blistering monologue on Jimmy Kimmel Live! after President Trump posted comments about the deaths of filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner remarks Kimmel said were “hateful and vile.”
During his opening monologue, Kimmel addressed the shock surrounding the couple’s deaths and turned his focus to Trump’s response on Truth Social.
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood,” Trump wrote in the post Kimmel read aloud. “Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away together with his wife, Michelle, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding and incurable affliction.”

Trump continued by invoking what he called “Trump derangement syndrome,” claiming Reiner had “driven people crazy by his raging obsession” with Trump.
Kimmel rejected the framing outright.
“Just when you think he can’t go any lower, he somehow finds a way to do that,” Kimmel said. “His description of what happened, of course, is not at all what happened. And this is exactly what I’ve spoken about before, this rush to pin the tail on the dog.”
He added that Trump’s comments amounted to “insulting someone who… who’s just been murdered, who leaves children behind without having any idea of what actually happened.”

“It’s so hateful and vile,” Kimmel said. “When I first saw it, I thought it was fake. My wife showed it to me this morning. I was like… Well, even for him, that seemed like too much, but nothing is ever too much for him.”
Kimmel also criticized the lack of outrage from conservative media, while noting that a small number of Republicans publicly denounced the post.
Later in the day, a White House reporter asked Trump whether he stood by his remarks.
“Well, I wasn't a fan of his at all. He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned," Trump responded. "He said he knew it was false. In fact, it's the exact opposite. I was a friend of Russia, controlled by Russia. You know, it was the Russia hoax. He was one of the people behind it. I think he hurt himself career-wise. He became like a deranged person, Trump derangement syndrome. So I was not a fan of Rob Reiner at all, in any way, shape, or form. I thought he was very bad for our country, yeah."

Kimmel reacted sharply to Trump’s answer.
“That corroded brain is in charge of our lives,” he said. “If you voted for that, it’s okay to reconsider. It’s perfectly fine.”
Kimmel went on to say that based on his own interactions with Reiner, the filmmaker would have wanted people to continue calling out Trump’s behavior.
“I know from my personal interactions with Rob Reiner that he would want us to keep pointing out the loathsome atrocities that continue to ooze out of this sick and irresponsible man’s mouth,” Kimmel said. “And so we’re going to do that over and over again until the rest of us wake up.”

He closed the segment by pointing to the contrast between Trump’s remarks and the holiday season.
“And then… Maybe the craziest part, then he goes about his day celebrating Christmas, of all things,” Kimmel said. “This is how he behaves at Christmas time.”
Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead in their Los Angeles area home on Sunday, December 14. Their son Nick is in custody regarding the deaths.
