Marc Cohen was at the lighting and described the mood as happy and joyful. He said there’s leadership from city and county leaders who care about the Jewish community and stand against anti-Semitism. However, he said the thought of those killed and injured at Bondi Beach still loomed during the lighting.

Cohen invited News10NBC’s Chris Fortune into his home on Monday, and shared that a key piece of Hanukkah is spreading light and joy and proudly displaying a menorah. He had a menorah displayed in the front window and a smaller one for his son on a piece of furniture.
“Folks are again, deeply disturbed and sad. And also unsurprised,” Cohen said. “But resolved, resolved to continue to celebrate our beautiful heritage, to celebrate this wonderful holiday, to share it with our families, to share it with our kids, to display our menorahs proudly and brightly.”
Cohen mentioned that people are understandably scared after the mass shooting in Australia. He emphasized the importance of celebrating in whatever way feels comfortable and safe, whether in public or private.
Menorah lightings are scheduled in Pittsford and Penfield at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
