Ben Stiller Pays Tribute to Rob Reiner: What a Huge Loss

Hollywood is mourning the loss of director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

On Sunday afternoon, it was reported that the LAFD found the couple dead when they were called to the Brentwood home to provide medical aid. It was revealed on Monday that their son, Nick, was the one who committed the murder and has been booked.

Rob Reiner, who is best known for his work such as When Harry Met Sally, The Princess Bride and This is Spinal Tap, was 78 years old. Michele, a photographer/producer, was 70.

The couple shared four children together: Tracy, Nick, Romy and Jake. Romy, the youngest of the siblings, was the one who found her parents unresponsive in their home.

Many celebrities and public figures shared their condolences for the famous director and his wife, including former President Barack Obama, Jerry O'Connell, James Woods, Josh Gad, California Governor Gavin Newsom, former President Bill Clinton and more. One of them was fellow actor-director Ben Stiller, who called Reiner "one of [his] favorite directors" on X on Sunday night.

"He made some of the most formative movies for my generation. He came out from behind a huge comedic shadow of the great Carl Reiner and being a tv actor to being a great director who made an incredible run of movies," Stiller shared. "Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies ever made - and the list goes on. He was a kind caring person who was really really funny. I didn’t know him well but was always a fan and I feel a real sadness for those who did, and his family."

In the meantime, he took on small voice and acting roles throughout the decade. On top of his entertainment career, Reiner was an activist who served as co-founder of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which initiated the court challenge against California Proposition 8 that banned same-sex marriage in the state. He was also a member of the Social Responsibility Task Force, an organization that advocated for moderation on social issues such as violence and tobacco use intersecting with the entertainment industry.
