Zooey Deschanel shared her own heartfelt tribute to the late Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, after the couple was found dead in their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14.
The 45-year-old actress, best known for her role as Jessica 'Jess' Day in New Girl, took to Instagram on Dec. 15 to share photos of her and Reiner from their time on the hit TV series.
"My heart is broken," she wrote in her caption. "Rob Reiner was the absolute warmest, funniest, most generous of spirits."

"I cherish the time we spent working together and the many films he made that have shaped who I am," she continued. "Rob and his lovely wife Michele were always so kind, and it brought me so much joy any time I was lucky enough to see them."
The 78-year-old actor and director played Bob Day, Jess's father, in the show. He made several appearances throughout the series' run on FOX, spanning from 2012 to 2018.
Reiner is best known for his role in All in the Family as Meathead, Archie Bunker’s son-in-law. He is also best known for directing classic films over the years, including The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally..., and This is Spinal Tap.

According to the New York Times, police confirmed that both Rob and Michele were found "stabbed to death" in their Los Angeles home on Dec. 14. The couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and "booked for murder" and is being held on $4 million bail, according to Los Angeles County jail records.
Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton confirmed in a press conference that the Los Angeles Police Department conducted a “death investigation” after they responded to a call to the Reiner's home, where the couple's bodies were discovered.

Along with Deschanel, other prominent figures in Hollywood and beyond have shared their devastation over Reiner's death.
Sean Astin, actor and president of the TV actors’ union SAG-AFTRA, called Reiner a “one of the most significant figures in the history of film and television," per the New York Times.
“Our entertainment community and audiences around the world will mourn deeply,” he continued in his statement. “On a personal note, so many of Mr. Reiner’s films and performances... made me emotional, and especially they made me laugh really hard. That’s how I will remember him.”

In a statement to NBC News, Kathy Bates, who worked with Reiner in the 1990 film Misery, said that she's “horrified hearing this terrible news. Absolutely devastated. I loved Rob.”
“He was brilliant and kind, a man who made films of every genre to challenge himself as an artist. He also fought courageously for his political beliefs. He changed the course of my life.”
Bates also remembered Michele as a “gifted photographer.”
“She shot my beautiful photos for the Misery campaign,” she continued. “My heart breaks for them both. My thoughts are with their family.”
