There’s a lot going on around the NHL on Monday, including a general manager getting canned. That, some significant injury news — including two former Blackhawks — and a couple veteran names getting tossed into trade speculation means it’s a good time for us to take a quick lap around the NHL.
Adams Out in Buffalo
The Buffalo Sabres have fired general manager Kevyn Adams. Jarmo Kekäläinen will take over as the new GM in Buffalo.
Kekäläinen was the first European-born general manager in NHL history, spending parts of 12 seasons as general manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets (2013 to 2024). He also held front office jobs in St. Louis and Ottawa. The Sabres brought him in as an advisor in May.
We’ll see if this leads to any significant roster adjusting in Buffalo. They’re riding the longest playoff drought in the NHL.

The New York Rangers will healthy scratch Mika Zibanejad on Monday night for being late to a team meeting. It sounds like he got stuck in traffic. Tough spot for all involved.
This comes with former Rangers forward Chris Kreider back at Madison Square Garden for the first time as a visitor.
