Rob Reiner Recently Shared How He Wants to Be Remembered

Rob Reiner shared how he wanted to be remembered just three months before his death.

According to TMZ, Rob and his wife Michele Singer were found deceased in their home on Dec. 14. People then reported that the couple were allegedly murdered by their son Nick, who as of Monday Dec. 15 has been arrested for the crime.

The Reiner family issued a statement confirming the deaths on the night of Dec. 14.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” the statement read, according to Variety.

During a September interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, the filmmaker was asked how he wanted friends, family, and fans to view his legacy.

"I’m not expecting this to happen anytime soon, Rob, you’re looking like a fine, healthy figure of a man,” Morgan said to Reiner at the time. “But should the moment come when we need to remember the work of Rob Reiner, which is the one for you, of everything that you’ve ever done, that you’d most like to be remembered for?”

Reiner, who was an actor before transitioning to directing and producing, shared the one project he most wanted to be remembered for.

“People have their favorites, the cliche [is], we love all our children, even the bad ones,” he joked, before revealing the film he was most proud of. “I always say, Stand By Me, to me, is the one that meant the most to me.”

Released in 1986, the coming-of-age drama film follows four young boys who set out on a journey to find the dead body of a missing boy. The movie was the third film Reiner ever directed.

After news of his passing broke, Stand By Me star Jerry O'Connell paid tribute to Reiner on social media.

“Love you, Rob. Sincerely,” O’Connell wrote next to a picture of he and Reiner on set of the iconic film.

“I don’t know that it’s the best; it’s for other people to decide,” Reiner said of Stand By Me during the Piers Morgan interview. “But it’s the one that meant the most to me because it really is an extension of my personality and my sensibility. It has a mixture of humor and melancholy and emotio … It’s closest to me of all of the films I’ve done.”

Morgan reshared the interview to Instagram one day after Reiner's death on Monday, Dec. 15.

“Very poignant clip from my interview with Rob Reiner just three months ago. ?,” Morgan wrote via X.
