OAKLAND — A woman has been arrested and charged with using an extension cord to whip her 9-year-old daughter, causing “visible red marks” to the child’s back, according to court records.
The 45-year-old Oakland woman was charged with felony counts of child abuse and causing corporal injury to a child, as well as a misdemeanor count of child cruelty, court records show. At her first court appearance, Judge David Pereda ordered her to be released from jail without bail but is requiring her to take a parenting class.
The woman was arrested Dec. 1, after police responded to a report of a woman beating a child while reciting Bible verses on the 1000 block of East 22nd Street, according to court records. Police say she denied “inflicting any corporal punishment” upon the girl.
