‘Tracker’ Midseason Finale Ends on a Cliffhanger—With Colter’s Life in Danger

Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley) gets into dangerous situations weekly, but Tracker Season 3 Episode 9, also the midseason finale of the hit drama, may have been his most dangerous yet.

Despite the title, "Good Trouble," there wasn't anything good about the trouble he found himself in, especially not the ending that left Colter and John Keaton's lives in jeopardy.

The episode brought back the fan-favorite character and retired cop, portrayed by Brent Sexton. Fans will remember Keaton first appearing in Tracker Season 2, helping Colter catch a serial killer on the loose in the Snoqualmie National Forest. More importantly, however, he helped Colter finally solve the overarching case of Gina's disappearance last season, using his PI skills to turn over new evidence that provided closure for Colter and Gina's loved ones.

Sexton has proved that he deserves a more permanent spot on Tracker, but seeing him in a guest-starring role again was a welcome surprise, particularly because there's a huge level of trust between Colter and Keaton that a case this intense required.

It started as nothing more than a bad feeling at first. Unfortunately, by the end of the episode, as things went extremely south for the dynamic duo, Keaton, who was shot and bleeding out all over the backseat of the car, found himself apologizing for ever roping Colter into this mess.

The disappearance of Keaton's former partner, Nick Dobbs, led the duo to check out the scene of another possibly-related crime, the death of a dairy farmer, where they uncovered a trail of bodies that linked to a major conspiracy involving a shell-company, run by an Armenian mobster named Menassian. Menassian had a long list of clients on his payroll, and potentially many of the people on the force that Keaton previously trusted. I'm not convinced that the Commissioner (played by Chicago Med'sSasha Roiz), who kept urging Keaton to "sit this one out," isn't in on it.

The case also invovled a ruthless contract killer, Emile Lange, who was the one who fired the shot at Keaton, after murdering Menassian along with Dobbs, who Randy (Chris Lee) figures out was being paid off by the shell company, just like the dead dairy farmer.

It seems anyone who crossed paths with Menassian was now paying the ultimate price at the hands of Lange.

And to get ahead of it, Colter and Keaton needed to know what Lange was after, though they weren't able to piece it all together in time, only learning that Lange was looking for a woman named Cassie Linstrom at an accountant's house that likely worked for Menassian.

Keaton recalls that Linstrom is the name of the cop who died at Vortex nightclub, and the one Lange supposedly killed.

Why would he be looking for someone that he himself got rid of?

Sadly, we don't get those as answers, as Keaton is shot and Colter's main goal is to stabilize his buddy. As they're driving, and Colter is urging Keaton to hang on, their car is riddled with bullets, likely from Lange, who is now onto them. Colter veers off the road and drives off a cliff, with the car landing on its hood.

"To be continued" flashes across the screen—with Colter and Keaton's life hanging in the balance.

Thankfully, Randy and Reenie (Fiona Rene) have been looped into the case, uncovering the deeper connections between Menassian and the others, and will hopefully get a lead that will give Colter and Keaton a leg up against Lange, if they survive the crash, that is.

We won't learn Colter and Keaton's fate until Tracker returns with new episodes on March 1, 2026, following the winter hiatus. It will be moving to 9/8c on CBS.
