Warriors coach Steve Kerr once again called for change after a mass shooting at Brown University in Rhode Island left two dead and several more injured on early Sunday morning.
Before Golden State’s game in Portland on Sunday evening, Kerr went on a three-minute monologue, pleading for change after the latest shooting to rock the nation.
“It’s human nature to just not want to deal with this stuff, and it’s human nature to just think this is so horrible, let’s not think about it,” Kerr told reporters. “We have to think about it. The vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible, law-abiding citizens and they have every right to own a gun. But it’s on us to decide if we actually want to take action as a country, as citizens.”

“We know there are common-sense measures we can take that will save people’s lives,” Kerr said. “I just want people out there, it doesn’t matter if you’re Democrat or Republican, gun owner or non-gun owner, I just want people thinking ‘What if it were my child, what if it were my brother or sister?’”
Kerr later added, “Or are we just going to continue to let the gun lobby run us over and not let us do anything to protect each other, to protect our children, protect our future. We have to make that decision.”
Kerr has consistently voiced his political opinions during his 11-year career in charge of the Warriors. This May, he wore a shirt in support of Harvard when the university was under fire by the Trump administration.
During the preseason, Kerr attended a “No Kings” protest to voice his opposition to actions taken by the current federal government. In November, Kerr spoke about the need for gun reform after legendary Oakland coach John Beam was murdered at Laney College.
Kerr also spoke at the Democratic National Convention in 2024 and has long been a critic of current president Donald Trump.
