Today, the women’s 200 IM was the 17-year-old’s victim. Hein delivered a 2:10.57 to win the field by over seven seconds and slice a half second off Georgina Bardach’s national record of 2:11.01. Bardach established the record at the FINA World Cup in 2009, during the supersuit era.
Hein is the long course Argentine record holder for the event, with the 2:12.12 that she blasted to win the Pan American Games. Tonight, she split 28.98/33.33/38.99/29.27 en route to her victory.
Prior to the 200 IM victory, Buenos Aires’ star swimmer also claimed the 400 free title in 4:04.38. This narrowly missed her own 4:04.17 meet and national record from last year.
Tonight, she will race the 200 free and 400 IM. She already holds the 200 free meet and national records for last year. The 400 IM is arguably Hein’s best event, as her 4:34.34 long course swim at Junior Worlds won the meet and broke the championship record.
On Friday, Hein successfully tried her hand at sprints, clocking a 54.16 100 free national record to win her first event of the weekend. Her total of individual Argentine records now stands at nine.
