Jerry Seinfeld and Larry Davids HBO Reunion Is Gloriously Weird

Larry David in a Ben Franklin getup is not something I expected this morning. And yet there he was, beaming with confidence, looking thrilled with whatever questionable idea he’d just had. The moment arrives in HBO’s newly-released teaser reel for its upcoming slate, tucked between flashes of other big titles. If the goal was to spark interest in David’s new project, they did pretty, pretty, pretty, good.

The footage itself is brief, only a few seconds long, but it’s enough to set the tone. David appears alongside Jerry Seinfeld, the longtime collaborator and friend who helped change television comedy forever with Seinfeld. They’re dressed in late-1700s style clothing, exchanging looks before David excitedly declares, “I got a really good feeling about this!” In another blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot, he’s uncomfortably riding a horse and wielding a riding crop, which feels perfectly on brand.

This untitled HBO project marks David’s first major move since Curb Your Enthusiasm wrapped its 12-season run in 2024. The new series is a six-episode sketch comedy focused on American history, co-written and executive produced by Jeff Schaffer, David’s longtime Curb collaborator. Schaffer is also directing, which should reassure fans hoping for that familiar rhythm of discomfort, stubbornness, and beautifully timed social misfires.

The premise isn’t about famous figures or sweeping historical moments. Instead, the show reportedly focuses on overlooked or forgotten people from America’s past, which feels like fertile ground for David’s uniquely nitpicky, observational lens. Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions are on board as producing partners.

Seinfeld’s appearance is a pleasant surprise. He guest-starred several times on Curb, and the chemistry between the two has always carried an easy shorthand, built on decades of shared comedic DNA. No additional casting has been officially announced, but here's hoping other Curb regulars pop up.

While painfully short, the trailer is enough to recognize the tone, and to laugh simply at the image of Larry David in a wig looking deeply pleased with himself. After years of watching him wrestle with social norms in modern Los Angeles, seeing him turn that same energy loose on American history feels both ridiculous and kind of perfect.

There’s no release date or title yet, but one commenter summed it up in a very Larry David way: 'Is it actually called "Untitled Larry David Project" cause that'd be great.'
