Actor Timothy Spall is discussing his Harry Pottercharacter, the cruel and cowardly Peter Pettigrew.
While speaking to People magazine in December 2025, Spall discussed playing Peter, who goes by Wormtail because of his ability to transform into a rat, in several of the Harry Potter films. As fans of the Harry Potter films and the book series, written by J.K. Rowling, are aware, Peter betrayed Harry Potter's (Daniel Radcliffe) parents, Lily and James, and worked closely with the ever-so-evil Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes).
"Peter is a weak character that wants to survive. I mean, he doesn't ultimately, does he?” said Spall, in reference to his character's death in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book, published in 2007.
In addition, Spall revealed he has a fondness for the disturbing film scene in 2005's Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire that showed Wormtail bringing the then-feeble Voldemort back to his regular form.
“But he's up there with the best, cooking Lord Voldemort in a pot of stew and carrying it around like a hot, vile little baby was one of my favorite moments in any film,” said Spall to the publication.
Spall also briefly spoke about the upcoming HBO Harry Potter television series, which is currently in production. He said while he hasn't ever "given any advice to actors," he encouraged those who are in the upcoming Harry Potter project "to make the part their own."
"And there is so much good writing, good characters, classic. You can do it as many different ways as you like," said Spall while speaking to People.
He also suggested that whoever takes on the role of Wormtail for the new Harry Potter series should keep in mind he's a complex character.
“There's no advice, but I would say there is something very complex about somebody that is that evil and also kind of vulnerable at the same time. That's what I liked about him," said Spall during the December 2025 interview.
Spall shared that he appreciated being a part of the Harry Potter film franchise during a July 2011 interview with Absolute Radio.
"There's a devotion here and a whole generation and kids that it means a lot to. And, so, to be a part of something that, seven different films, that are basically about magic. And making people have a good time. And sometimes it encourages people to read, it's a great thing," said the actor in the interview.
