Actress and singer Zooey Deschanel and her fiancé, HGTV starJonathan Scott, are proud cat parents to three furry friends, Poppy, Pickle, and Dove. However, Deschanel admitted it wasn't Scott's idea to bring home their feline friends.

“[Scott] wasn’t open to it at first. It did take a little convincing. And then he was like, ‘Alright.’ Actually, it took, kind of, years," said Deschanel in the interview.
Hudson seemed surprised Scott had to be persuaded over the years to get cats.
"Well, yeah, I had to, like, be like, ‘Do you think about, we could get a cat one day?’ And he’s like, ‘Maybe," replied Deschanel.
She clarified that Scott, whom she began dating in 2019, "loves" the cats now.

Deschanel shared how she came to the decision of getting three cats on the December 11 episode of Kylie Kelce's podcast, Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce. Deschanel explained that she and Scott were mourning the death of their two dogs. "We had two dogs that we loved, a Chihuahua and a Yorkie. And they were Jonathan's when we met. And they were very old and then they passed away, which we were very sad and had a little hole in our hearts for, you know, animals," said Deschanel during the interview.
She also said that she has "always wanted a cat" but wasn't able to do so when she was a child because her "parents were allergic."
