The Times report described a 2024 scene when Barron was on a Zoom call with Tate, who was then barred from leaving Romania. Then 18, Barron was with Justin Waller, who has helped the Tate brothers run their “brazenly chauvinistic” movement and online courses, which preach mental and physical discipline, entrepreneurship and “the subjugation of women,” according to the Times. During their Zoom chat with Tate, Barron was being fitted for a suit by Waller’s tailor and the three men discussed their shared belief that the Romanian criminal investigation had no merit and was an attempt to silence both Andrew Tate and his brother and alleged co-conspirator, Tristan.
While Barron didn’t say anything about helping Tate and his brother with their legal issues, Waller told the Times that they discussed how the Tates could support Trump’s presidential campaign with their online platforms. Waller acknowledged to the Times that Trump’s youngest son “is not a bad ally to have.”

Soon after Tate received news hat he and his brother could leave Romania, Tate credited the Trump administration with being “on top of things,” with the Times reporting that the brothers’ release “was the culmination of a yearslong effort by Andrew to forge alliances with Mr. Trump’s advisers and family members.” The Times also reported that Tate also befriended Barron’s older half-brother, Donald Trump Jr.
Tate told reporters that he was “close to the Trump” family after a gunman tried to assassinate Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, according to the Times. Tate specifically said he spoke to Barron after the shooting and said, “I look forward to, once I am free, being with Donald Trump in person and reminding him that he’s a bulletproof badass.”
The Times reported that support from Trump administration officials played “a crucial role” in the Tates being allowed to leave Romania. But the brothers’ arrival in the United States has created dissension among some traditional conservatives, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis saying they weren’t welcome in his state and podcaster Megyn Kelly declaring that they represent actual “toxic masculinity.” Some have likened the Tates to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the specter of whom has become a political liability for Trump.
Romanian prosecutors told the Times that the brothers’ release from their country was legal, while the Romanian prime minister at the time, Marcel Ciolacu, did not respond to requests for comment. A White House spokesperson said it was not involved in the Tates’ legal issues and would not respond to questions about Barron and Donald Trump Jr. An attorney for the Tates called the TImes’ reporting about Barron’s friendship with Andrew Tate “fake news.”
But it’s likely that scrutiny over Barron’s ties to Tate won’t go away. According to the Times, Romanian prosecutors are moving forward with their case against the brothers, who could also face charges of human trafficking and rape in the U.K. The Times moreover said it learned that agents at the Department of Homeland Security have been investigating the Tates for years.
News that Barron had become a Tate admirer began to emerge during the 2024 election. In a report by the Daily Mail, some of Trump’s MAGA supporters called Barron his father’s political heir and gave him credit for recognizing Tate’s influence over young male voters, who they believed could play an important role in helping Trump return to power.
Both the Daily Mail and the Times described how Barron hosted a dinner at his father’s Mar-a-Lago resort for influencers in the spring. Among the guests was Waller, who told the Times that the conversation that night “meandered,” from them “calling each other degenerate names” to discussing potential running mates for Trump, who also made an appearance. As the Daily Mail reported, another guest at the dinner was Iranian-American business mogul Patrick Bet-David, who talked about how impressive Barron was.
On his PDB podcast, Bet-David described Barron as “sharp, funny, sarcastic, tough — not weak,” the Daily Mail reported. Moreover, in a clip posted to X, Bet-David praised Barron’s good manners and humility, calling him a “freaking stud of a kid.”
Bet-David furthermore explained that Barron was prepared for the challenges of entering the political arena, which would mean that the media would no longer take a hands-off approach to writing about him or criticizing him.
