Country Singer, 61, Reeling After Devastating Death of Beloved Friend and Longtime Manager: ‘I’m So Numb’

Darryl Worley is mourning the sudden loss of his longtime friend and tour manager, Joe Morris. While details surrounding Morris’s passing have not been publicly released, the country singer, 61, took to social media to honor his friend and reflect on the man he was.

In a lengthy Facebook post on Thursday, Dec. 11, Worley announced the heartbreaking news, writing that Morris was a family friend, a lifelong brother, and a Vietnam veteran. Worley called Morris a “quite professional” who “ran a tight ship,” and shared that he was “one of my heroes,” who sadly made the “choice to leave this world before his time.”

“I’m so numb that I haven’t been able to put my thoughts together….” Worley began. “We lost Joe Morris a couple of days ago. He made a choice to leave this world before his time. I still can’t believe it, and my heart won’t seem to accept the truth, but he is gone.”

The Memphis, Tenn., native said that Morris was an essential part of his camp for nearly 20 years, who not only shared a professional relationship with him, but also looked after his “wife and family in such an amazing way.”

“We were all like his kids. He wanted us to be safe, on time, and well fed…,” the “Have You Forgotten?” singer explained. “He was gentle and kind in most situations, but he certainly knew how to turn it up….we’ve seen some intense moments together.”

Darryl Worley Highlighted Morris’s Time in the Military

Worley detailed Morris’s time in the U.S. Army Special Forces, which included “running some incredible missions that have been documented in several different publications.”

“He’d just as soon you didn’t even know that,” Worley captioned. “He was truly a “quiet professional,” which is another name for the Green Beret. His service was something he never wanted to discuss until he met me. He was one of my heroes.”

Calling his loss a “disaster,” Worley revealed that he has, at times, “been a little angry” over his friend’s death, adding that “I’ve been through it before, but that doesn’t make the whole thing any easier….Even though it probably played some part in it, I won’t give PTSD full credit for taking out my friend Joe Morris. There were a lot of different factors involved, and in the end, he lost the battle. I loved him like I love my brothers, and I’m not mad anymore. I’m just broken, empty, and a little bit lost. I’ll be just fine because I have my family and my God. My heart goes out to people who can’t say that.”

The Star Captioned Memories in Photos

In his tribute post, Worley shared a series of photos in memory of Morris that focused on happier moments and time in the military. While asking for prayers, Worley ended his message saying that he wants to opt out of saying “goodbye.”

“Please pray for us and the family as we navigate these rough waters,” he wrote. “Joe Morris was my friend and my brother. We covered a lot of ground together, and we had each other's backs. I’ve never met anyone more selfless or more loyal than Joe Morris…. I could just go on and on forever.”

“How do I say goodbye? Well, I think I’m gonna pass on that,” he added. “….. I think I know where Joe Morris is, and I can’t bring myself to say goodbye. I love you, Joe, and I’ll see ya later, buddy.”
