The grand experiment of The Amazing Race 38 has come to an end. It's perhaps the most audacious casting theme in the Emmy-winning reality show's decades-long history, as notable names from previous seasons of Big Brother stepped out of the house and onto the race course. And after 12 legs of secret alliances, medical emergencies, and lots of U-Turn drama, it all culminated in New York City, where Jag Bains became a two-time reality TV winner alongside his brother Jas Bains.Ultimately, from a casting perspective, the experiment proved to be a success. Big Brother fans got the opportunity to see a new side of the people they watched 24/7 on the live feeds, and we all got to watch the reality TV debut of a wonderful group of loved ones. The theme of Season 38, of course, has provided rampant speculation as to whether The Amazing Race will do another season full of former reality stars. But Phil Keoghan is U-Turning those expectations.

"Never say never, I guess," when asked about the possibility in an exclusive interview with Parade. "But I think there are so many other new things we have in the works that I think we should try first. At the end of the day, there is something truly wonderful about sharing the world with people who live in 'Heartland America' and who have perhaps never left the country — and in some cases, their state.""Mixing things up is great," he continues, "and I love when fans reach out to make suggestions about what they’d like to see on the show. Not just who we cast but, where we go and what they want to see us do. As small as the world is becoming, certainly much smaller than when we started back in 2001, there is an inordinate number of new places and challenges we want to include in new seasons. I’ve said it before, I do think going to space on the race is absolutely possible in the next few years. Mark my words."So we know The Amazing Race won't be going back to the reality alum well in the near future. But what fans can look forward to is Season 39, which has already been filmed. The bad news: Due to Padma Lakshmi's new show, America's Culinary Cup, taking the post-Survivor slot in the spring, the new season is not set to air until fall 2026 at the earliest. The good news: When it finally arrives, according to Keoghan, there will be a lot to look forward to.

"They say, 'Luck is the Residue of Design,'" he quips. "And Season 39 is a perfect example of that. Captivating cast, some new twists which gave us the desired results of changing things up, great weather in destinations where it really made a difference, some unpredictable challenge moments and a special episode I took particular interest in ended with a special personal moment in my life."While we begin the long wait until The Amazing Race 39, fans already have 40 on the brain. Given the round number, there's been plenty of buzz as to what the show could do for the milestone season. Could they take a page from Survivor and bring back previous winners to find the best of the best? Are they aiming to do all-stars in general, considering we haven't had a full returnee season since Season 24? Could we see a cast filled entirely with celebrities? As Keoghan revealed to Parade, unlike a Roadblock choice, things are certainly not set in stone.

"Maybe it’s the season we head to space! We have been considering an All-Star season. Are there some celebrity fans you would like to see? Or perhaps a celebrity who’s a Race fan who races with one of their big fans? Drew Barrymore with someone from her audience? Snoop Dogg and a fan picked out of the audience at one of his concerts, or we see him interviewing potential teammates leading up to the start?" "What about second chances?" he posts. "Teams that have come so close, finished in the top 3 but didn’t quite make it. Or we pick from teams who were the first to be eliminated — maybe not a good idea, technically [they 're] the slowest racers. TAR 40 could end up taking twice as long to film.""Another option, we let TAR fans pick their favorite teams from the more than 400 who have been on the show so far," he suggests. "A popularity casting selection showing live voting updates. Needless to say, we are talking through a lot of ideas and always love reading what fans have to say."It's safe to say we'll have plenty of exciting Amazing Race in our lives when the show returns. And, depending on the direction the race is going, Season 40 might take a cue from Survivor and truly put it "in the hands of the fans."
