A top Chicago Bears official has ties to the athletic department employee at the center of the downfall of Michigan’s now ex-football coach Sherrone Moore, the NBC Chicago Investigative team learned.
Moore was arrested and jailed in the middle of a life meltdown Wednesday; losing his job hours before his arrest because of what the university said was an improper relationship with an athletic department employee.
Police near Ann Arbor, Michigan responded to a call for help on Wednesday after an alleged break-in to a third-floor apartment by a man with a knife.
That man became quickly known to officers as the head football coach at nearby University of Michigan, Sherrone Moore, who was bowl-game bound until he was fired.
Michigan school records reviewed NBC Chicago reveal that the university employee last year received a substantial salary increase — about a 55% raise in pay — while at the same time she was involved in an improper relationship with 39-year-old coach Moore, who is married and has three children.
The woman at the center of the misconduct case against Moore is related to a top official of the Chicago Bears.
NBC Chicago contacted the Bears official, the woman related to him and team and did not immediately receive a response.
Moore is locked up at the Washtenaw County Jail and has yet to be officially charged. He is being held for mental health reasons according to authorities but is scheduled for a morning arraignment on Friday.
Police say there is a criminal assault investigation underway against the now ex-coach.
