The Wire star Idris Elba revealed in a shocking confession that he is preparing to retire from acting.
"I’m hoping that my fan base as an actor isn’t mad at me," Elba said during a Q&A at the Red Sea International Film Festival, according to the U.S. Sun. "But, eventually, I want to transfer to be a director fully."
Elba continued, "I’ve been acting for a long time. I love it still, but I think directing allows me to flex slightly different muscles and just be a part of the set in a different way. I really enjoy it."
While the Luther actor, who made his directorial debut with the 2018 crime drama Yardie, did not give a timeline for when he plans to make his final bow onscreen, he went on to say that another goal of his is to return to school.
"There is a possibility that I may go to school and just study, not political science, but human science. I think humans respond to humans regardless of whether it’s politics or sports. It’s about humans," he said. "I’ve found myself feeling like an imposter in the political arena. I’ve found myself in arenas with heads of states and ministers talking about things that are way above my pay grade."
