2025 ITALIAN SHORT COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Thursday, December 11th – Saturday, December 13th Riccione, Italy SCM (25m) SwimSwam Preview Entry List Live ResultsRight on the heels of the 2025 European Short Course Championships, this year’s Italian Short Course Championships kicked off from Riccione today.
Italy closed out this year’s edition of the biannual SC Euros in fine fashion, topping the overall medal table with 9 golds, 5 silver and 6 bronze to set themselves apart from the field. The nation earned 10 pieces of hardware on the final night of competition alone.
We saw several impressive performances that rattled the all-time Italian rankings tonight, making this 4-day competition one to watch as it continues to unfold.
Lisa Angiolini fired off a lifetime best en route to winning the women’s 100m breaststroke this evening.
The 30-year-old veteran stopped the clock at a mighty effort of 1:04.42 to beat the pack by nearly a second.
Runner-up status went to Francesca Zucca who touched in 1:05.33 as Arianna Castiglioni rounded out the podium in 1:05.64.
As for Angiolini, the 2022 European LC Championships silver medalist in this event opened in 30.85 and closed in 34.02 to get the job done. Her performance handily overwrote her former career-swiftest mark of 1:05.22 notched at the 2022 edition of this competition.
Angiolini did not race at this year’s SC Euros but her time would have garnered her a 7th-place finish in Lublin, Poland. She now slots herself into the top 4 among Italy’s all-time best performers.

The teen reached the wall in a remarkable time of 4:01.68 to hold a healthy advantage over the rest of the pack.
Simone Spediacci touched next in 4:04.43 while Lorenzo Altini bagged the bronze in 4:04.84.
As for Potenza, his previous best-ever effort entering this competition rested at the 4:08.77 logged in March of this year. Just like that, in a matter of months, Potenza demolished that former outing by 7 seconds en route to taking the title tonight.

He now checks in as Italy’s #2 performer in history and his result would have rendered him the silver medalist behind countryman Alberto Razzetti in Lublin.

Mascolo turned in a time of 1:54.77 (26.97/29.03/29.14/29.63) to slice .28 off her previous best-ever performance of 1:55.49 from SC Euros.
She hit the sole time of the pack under 1:55, with Bianca Nannucci touching in 1:55.70, followed by European SC champion in the 1500m free, Simona Quadarella, who posted 1:55.72.
Mascolo remains Italy’s 5th-best performer of all time in this women’s SCM 200 free event.

Federica Pellegrini – 1:51.17, 2009 Sofia Morini – 1;54.17, 2024 Giulia D’Innocenzo – 1:54.32, 2023 Alessandr Mao – 1:54.95, 2025 Ana Chiara Mascolo – 1:55.49, 2025Finally, the men’s 400m free also saw the nation’s overall rankings rattled as 19-year-old Alessandro Ragaini made his presence known en route to taking gold.
Ragaini registered a winning effort of 3:39.74 to clear the field by over a second.
Matteo Lamberti settled for silver in 3:40.87 and Davide Marchello rounded out the podium in 3:41.68.
Entering these championships, Ragaini had been as quick as 3:40.64 in this SCM 400 free, so he managed to dip beneath the 3:40 barrier for the first time in his young career. He is now Italy’s 7th-best performer in history.

The women’s 50m back saw Francesca Pasquino grab the gold in a time of 26.86 as the sole competitor under the 27-second barrier. Chiara Lamanna hit 27.05 for silver and Francesca Romana Furfaro earned bronze in 27.20. 26-year-old Leonardo Deplano was the top men’s 50m freestyler, holding off Lorenzo Ballarati and Alessandro Miressi. Deplano stopped the clock at 21.23 with Ballarati and Miressi registering respective efforts of 21.27 and 21.37 to reap the minor medals. Two women cleared the 58-second barrier in the 100m fly this evening. Elena Capretta notched a gold medal-worthy time of 57.03 followed by Costanza Cocconcelli, who reaped runner-up honors in 57.34. Caterina Santambrogio bagged the bronze in 58.34. Simone Stefani turned in the 8th-quickest effort of his career, a time of 49.93, to take the men’s edition of the 100m fly. Behind him was Olympic medalist Federico Burdisso, who hit 50.30 and Giacomo Carini, who touched in 50.90, good enough for bronze. Sans Quadarella among the field, the women’s 1500m freestyle saw Emma Randellini get it done for gold in a result of 15:53.33. That represented the sole outing of the timed final to dip beneath the 16:00 threshold tonight.
