In a pair of posts shared at 3 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, Coverdale delivered a formal farewell message that read like a curtain call.
“After over 20 fun filled years of interacting online with all of you Snake People, first with the BBS on whitesnake.com and then onto Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, it’s time for me to withdraw from social media to fully engage in sweet reflection on my career and my life and enjoy my retirement with my friends and my Beloved Family,” he wrote.
The social media goodbye comes just weeks after Coverdale confirmed he was retiring from music altogether. In mid-November he shared a video message announcing that he was bringing his five decade career to a close, saying it was finally “time to hang up my rock and roll platform shoes and my skin tight jeans.”
The update marked the official end of an era for the singer who spent the 1970s in Deep Purple before founding Whitesnake and steering the band through its chart topping peak in the 1980s. His December 11 farewell to fans online served as a natural follow up, and it was a fitting final piece as the last step in fully embracing retirement.
Coverdale, who fronted Whitesnake through some of rock’s most recognizable eras including the band’s 1987 breakthrough that produced hits like “Here I Go Again” and “Is This Love,” thanked fans for the memories created both onstage and online.
“It has been such a pleasure for me to interact with you all over the years… sharing music videos, funny memes, farts and giggles, tour info, unboxings, Q and A with DC… Santa Snake… etc,” he continued. “Unforgettable, precious memories… What an incredible journey we’ve shared together. What a magical experience.”
