Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s Daughter Teases Untold Story of Her Iconic Parents in New TV Series

Lucie Arnaz has one more story to tell about her famous parents—and this time it will be the whole one. The eldest child of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz recently partnered with former NBC Entertainment and WarnerMedia Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt to develop a new series about the TV legends, according to Variety. And unlike past projects about the pioneering television couple, this one would be a multi-parter.

Arnaz, 74, shared that the working title for the series— which she is shopping around in hopes of securing a multi-season dive into the lives of the I Love Lucy couple —is  Lucy and Desi: The Greatest Story Never Told.

“If you’re really willing to look at the whole thing, there’s quite a story there, and a lot to be learned,” Arnaz told the outlet, adding that her parents’ story is “not what people think.”

“There’s a lot of sadness, there’s addiction, and there’s cheating, and there’s lots of fights for no reason,” she said. “They had this wonderful legacy, which just happens to be the funniest show ever. But they’re more than that show. Their lives, individually and collectively, were very exciting and amazing and deep.”

“I wanted to be able to look at them as people and say, ‘aren’t they interesting? Imagine, even with all that sorrow and all that loss, he was able to do this,'” she added of her parents' legacy.

Arnaz previously teased a future miniseries about her parents during a fan Q&A during a “Lucie on the Lot” event in June. At the time, she shared that a producer friend had approached her to produce a series about her parents’ whole story.

"Only in the last 10 months or so, he's been talking to me, and that's what we're gonna do," she said. "You can't do it in two hours. It has to be a big miniseries, and it can't be one of those things that you start and it gets canceled after the first season because you didn't finish telling the story. So they have to commit to maybe three seasons, maybe 30 episodes. So, we're in the process of doing that."

Ball and Desi Arnaz wed in 1940 and renewed their vows in 1949, per People. They divorced in 1960 amid longtime rumors about Arnaz’s heavy drinking and infidelity. Both went on to marry other people. Desi Arnaz died in 1986 at age 69, while Ball died in 1989 at 77.

Lucie Arnaz has shared a lot of her parents' lives in past projects, most recently in the book Lucy & Desi: The Love Letters, a compilation of personal letters from the early days of the couple's courtship in the 1940s.
