Greeley police shoot, arrest armed man during burglary call

A man was shot by Greeley police during a burglary call Wednesday afternoon in the 2800 block of 16th Avenue.

The shooting happened at approximately 3:45 p.m. Wednesday when officers responded to a burglary in process, according to a Weld County Sheriff’s Office news release. Officers approached Manuel Cazares, 34, who allegedly pointed a weapon at an officer. The officer shot at Cazares, who was not hit and retreated into a residence. Cazares was ordered to exit the residence, which he did, but then he stopped complying with officers’ orders. Cazares was shot and taken into custody without further incident.

    Cazares was taken to the Weld County Jail and arrested on charges of felony menacing and a protection order violation, with potential additional charges.

    The police shooting investigation is being handled by the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team and the officer will be placed on paid administrative leave.

    The release did not identify the officer who shot Cazares.
