World Darts Championship 2025-26 – full schedule, format and how to watch

The World Darts Championship begins on Thursday 11 December and runs through to Saturday 3 January.

Alexandra Palace will host the tournament, as it has since 2007. There will be matches every day over the festive period, with the exception of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve.

The tournament has been expanded this year, with 32 extra competitors and an eye-watering record prize fund.

Although it’s 18-year-old Luke Littler who’s heading into Ally Pally as the reigning champion and favourite, Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen and others will want to have their say.

Let’s take a look at the full schedule, tournament details and where you can watch the action unfold this Christmas.

    Who’s competing this year?

There is an extended 128-player roster at the Worlds this year, up from 96 in last year’s competition.

The players who qualify for the championship include:

Top 40 from PDC’s Werner Rankings Ladder 40 qualifiers from one-year ProTour Ranking 48 International Qualifiers from PDC Secondary & Affiliate Tours and Qualifying Events

We will see the likes of Littler, Humphries, van Gerwen, Stephen Bunting and Jonny Clayton feature from the top of the Werner Rankings.

The likes of Danny Noppert, James Wade, Chris Dobey, Gerwyn Price and Gian van Veen will also appear.

What is the format of the tournament?

There was a format change ahead of this year’s competition which sees all players enter at the first round stage. In previous years, seeded players have been given automatic qualification through to the second round.

The Worlds uses the sets format, with each set being first to three legs. The deciding set must be won by at least two legs. If the score reaches 5-5, a sudden death leg will take place. This one has no throw for the bull, with the alteration of whoever throws first continuing.

First round – Best of five sets Second round – Best of five sets Third round – Best of seven sets Fourth round – Best of seven sets Quarter-finals – Best of nine sets Semi-finals – Best of 11 sets Final – Best of 13 sets

How much prize money is on offer?

The winner of this year’s tournament will walk away with a £1m cheque.

The sum, which is double that taken home by Littler last year, is part of a record £5m total prize fund.

The winnings will be divided as follows:

    Winner: £1,000,000 Runner-up: £400,000 Semi-final losers: £200,000 Quarter-final losers: £100,000 Fourth-round losers: £60,000 Third-round losers: £35,000 Second-round losers: £25,000 First-round losers: £15,000 Spectators during day five of the 2023/4 PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace (Photo: Tom Jenkins/Getty)

How can I watch the World Darts Championship on TV?

In the UK, the tournament will be broadcast live on Sky Sports’ dedicated darts channel from 11 December through to 3 January.

Viewers can also stream the action on NOW TV. Both will require viewers to subscribe to the service.
