Boston Rob Mariano is always thinking strategy.
During a recent appearance on E! News' Hot Goss, Mariano reflected on Dylan Efron's Dancing With The Stars journey and shared his plan to get him fan votes. The two first became friends last year while filming season 3 of The Traitors — which Efron won — and have been inseparable ever since.
"I gotta say, I'm proud of him. He crushed dancing," Mariano began, before sharing the strategy he gave his pal to secure fan votes. "You don't realize that there's strategy in Dancing With The Stars."
"I was calling him every show day, but he had a lot of strategies," Efron added. "Some we didn't use, some we did."
After the duo was asked what their tactics were, Mariano responded, "I'll just tell you this: when it was coming down to the end, we both kind of had the same idea at the same time. And he called me, he's like, 'I got an idea.' And I was like, 'Listen bro, here's the thing. You got to start to befriend the other contestants, the ones that are not as good, because they're going to get voted off, and when they do, you need to recruit them to have their people start turning their votes for you.'"
Mariano continued, "I was like, 'You know, Andy [Richter] is not making it to the end. He's got a lot of votes coming his way, buddy up with Andy.'"
"Just to be clear, I did not use this strategy," Efron said.
"He didn't! And that's why he ended up in fourth place," Mariano quipped back.

On Thursday, Dec. 11, Efron and Mariano will premiere their new YouTube series Everything’s a Competition. Available on Efron’s YouTube channel, the show will chronicle the pair going head-to-head in a series of unique competitions.
In a trailer released on Dec. 1, the duo are seen taking on a variety of challenges including pickleball, blindfolded golf, beer pong, painting, pottery-making — and even a duel at Medieval Times.
“I grew up watching Survivor. I always thought I could win all of these challenges,” Efron says in the trailer. “Now here’s my chance to beat Boston Rob at literally everything.”
