Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore has been fired by the university due to misconduct alleged by the school.
According to a statement from the university, Moore was fired after having an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel said in a statement. “Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of university policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
According to the school, former Charlotte head coach Biff Poggi will serve as their interim head coach for the Citrus Bowl against Texas.
Moore served as an interim head coach for Michigan when former coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended during the 2023 season, and was named the full-time head coach the following year.
In two seasons at Michigan, Moore posted a record of 17-8, beating Ohio State in 2024 and winning the Reliaquest Bowl that season.
