New Trade Rumor, LeBron Praises Derrick Rose, NBA Cup-Date, and Other Bulls Bullets

I’ll be honest, all this time off from Bulls basketball has been pretty darn refreshing, given what the product on the court has looked like over the past few weeks.

Today, we have a new potential trade rumor that’s popped up, and a few other nuggets as we wait for the return to the court on Friday in Charlotte.

    Bulls Bullets

So, yesterday, a report from @Ary_Report on X dropped linking the Bulls as a suitor for Domantas Sabonis of the Kings. Of course, this isn’t the first time the Kings and Bulls have been linked. Chicago traded both DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine to Sacramento in separate deals. Unfortunately, while this trade would make very little sense in terms of how the Bulls should be approaching their rebuild, it feels exactly like something Arturas Karnisovas would use some of his trade assets on.

The Chicago Bulls have emerged as a suitor for Sacramento’s Domantas Sabonis, league sources tell @TheConsensusNBA. Chicago’s front office has held internal discussions on pursuing Sabonis, with longstanding admiration for the Lithuanian star factoring into the interest.

    — Ary (@Ary_Report) December 10, 2025 Now, this isn’t to say Domantas Sabonis isn’t a nice player. He’s been a very good player in the league for a while now. However, it would just kind of be like adding a younger and better-defending Nikola Vucevic. In this deal, I’d imagine Vooch’s expiring contract would have to go the other way. So essentially, Arturas Karnisovas would be replacing Vooch with a slight upgrade. And, I promise you, this team is much farther than a light Nikola Vucevic upgrade away from being a title contender. Sabonis is a better defender than Vooch, for sure. But he’s by no means a great one. He would slightly improve the Bulls’ rim protection, but I doubt it would be enough to make a major impact. He’s also nowhere near the shooter Vucevic is. Long story short, I’m by no means trying to say Domantas Sabonis is a bad player. But we’ve seen what it looks like when he’s one of your “stars” in Sacramento, and there’s a ceiling there. The 29-year-old big man would be a great fit on a title contender that’s looking for some extra size, not a Bulls team that’s looking to get younger and utilize their assets to hopefully land a star. Arturas Karnisovas of the Chicago Bulls – © Kamil Krzaczynski – Imagn Images While I don’t think the Bulls end up trading for Sabonis, we’ve seen plenty of evidence in Karnisovas’s last few trades to point to this being on his radar. His last two valuable assets to move – Alex Caruso and Lonzo Ball – he’s dealt in one-for-one swaps for players. So, yeah, I don’t necessarily think this happens any time soon, but if it were announced in the near future, I’d be dissapointingly not all that surprised. Hopefully, Karnisovas realizes that he has some pretty darn valuable assets to move like Coby White, multiple first-round picks, and potentially Ayo Dosunmu (though I hope they extend him), as well as several expiring deals at his disposal, and he should use them to help build this team for the future, not make a run at yet another Play-In Tournament exit. I love giving LeBron James crap as much as anyone. He’s not the GOAT, and never will be the GOAT. However, when he deserves a tip of the cap, I’ll give it to him. On his Mind The Game podcast, earlier this week, he dished out a pretty great reminder of how awesome Derrick Rose really was and how much respect he had for not only his game, but what he meant for the city of Chicago.

    — Mind the Game (@mindthegamepod) December 9, 2025 The NBA Cup knockout stage tipped off last night. In quarterfinal action, the top-seeded Magic took down the Heat 117-108, and the Knicks defeated the Raptors 117-101. In the West, quarterfinal games continue tonight with the Lakers hosting the Spurs (who will be without Victor Wembanyama) and the Thunder welcoming the Suns to OKC. The semifinals will be this Saturday in Vegas, followed by the Finals on Tuesday, the 16th, also in Vegas. Joe Buck is headed to the Baseball Hall of Fame!
