A study executed by Everand and Fable, Everand’s reading services, reveals its readers’ most-liked book of the year, edging out the year’s most-read book.
The findings of the 2026 State of Reading Report revealed that more people read more in 2025. Sixty-four percent of respondents said they were reading more, with audiobooks edging out ebooks for the top digital format.
Judging by the study’s findings, it’s clear fantasy is the top genre for readers, with a surprising book edging out the competition as readers’ favorite title.

Born in Denver, Colorado, Pierce Brown (37) worked a variety of jobs, including social-media manager and NBC page, before turning his talents to the publishing world. His writing breakthrough came with Red Rising, his debut published novel, which he wrote in just two months.
Brown has already accumulated some of the biggest accolades for an author, winning Goodreads Best New Author (2014) and Goodreads Best Science Fiction Novel (2015, 2016). He also reached #2 on the Hardcover Fiction New York Times Best Seller list for Light Bringer shortly after its release.
