SOCCER

The United Soccer Coaches announced the 2025 High School Boys and Girls Soccer All-America teams, and three locals were among the top 199 players in the country.

    Badger senior Dax Harnett, Canfield senior Drew Snyder and Niles junior Madelyn Yost joined 110 boys and 89 girls as All-Americans.

    They will be recognized during the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony on Jan. 17 in Philadelphia.

    BOYS BASKETBALL

    Chalker 63, Lordstown 58 — Chalker was led by a trio of double digit scorers including Tegun Noble (19 points), Zach Pack (15), and Lucas Porterfield (10). Anthony Volpini had four 3-pointers and 17 points overall for Lordstown. Jace Owens added 16 points.

    Springfield 68, Sebring 7 — Landon Dyer led the Springfield offense with 14 points. Isaac Dyer added 13 points and five steals for the Tigers. Steven Morlan also made a big contribution with eight points and seven rebounds.

    Howland 54, Marlington 41 — Jackson Mickel scored 11 to lead Howland (2-1). Carter Saul and Steven Bubon added nine points each for the Tigers.

    Poland 66, Boardman 56 — Carmine Tukalo led Poland with 17 points. Anthony Delluomo scored 14 for the e bulldogs and Nick Nittoki added 10. Jayse Varley scored 16 to lead Boardman and Gabe Hammorton added 11.

    Ursuline 65, Austintown Fitch 59 — Jaylen Gunther led Ursuline with 21 points. Alex Simon (13) and Noah Bell (10) also reached double figures for the Irish. For Fitch Jalen Burgess (15), Braeden Sallee (14), and E.J. Giles (13) led the offense.

    Bristol 68, Maplewood 55 — Rylan Gillian had a game high 24 points, leading Bristol past Maplewood. Michael Sponsler added 15 points for the Panthers. Maplewood was led by Tyson Webster with 11 points and Lucas Kern with 10.

    McDonald 62, Western Reserve 43 — Brenden Emerick hit three first quarter 3-pointers, scoring 14 overall for McDonald (2-0). Joey Cappuzzello added 13 and Drew Zajak had 12 points for the Blue Devils. Reserve (2-1) was led by Connor Cochran with 11 points and Josh Klasic with 10.

    Salem 47, Struthers 39 — Ty Manion had 17 points, four rebounds, and two assists to lead Salem. Deontay Steele added 14 points, six rebounds, and one assist. Ben Severe also came up big for the Quakers with eight points and 10 rebounds. Jimmy Shaffer led Struthers with 11 points.

    Colombiana 57, United 56 — Senator Johnson scored the game winning basket at the buzzer for Columbiana. Johnson finished with 10 points. Cooper Brown led the Clippers in scoring with 15 points and Hunter Davanzo notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. United was led by Kota Shasteen with 20 points and Jason Pratt with 15.

    Fairport 82, Grand Valley 58 — Yomar Castellano led Fairport with 20 points. Kam Leftwich (16), Jan Castellano (14), Ben Allen (13), and Brandon Gibson (13) all reached double figures for Fairport. Grand Valley was led by Solomon Schultz (19 points), Evan Skitec (12), and Carter Turk (10).

    Warren Harding 62, Sharon 30 — Myles Miller and Asa Burch scored 10 points each to lead Harding’s offense. Xavier Clark added nine for the Raiders. Sharon was led by Jeremiah Nixon with 15 points.

    Howland and Ursuline held a dual meet Monday night. The Ursuline boys defeated Howland 95-62. On the girls side, Howland defeated Ursuline 70-68.
