The Bears Hosted 7 Players (Including a QB) For Tryouts on Tuesday

With a pair of practice squad roster spots available, it makes sense that the Chicago Bears hosted more than a handful of players for tryouts on Tuesday. And while the Bears have bigger fish to fry, there is nothing wrong with bringing in some players who could conceivably round out the practice squad as we get deeper into December. A little depth never hurt anyone. Plus, it is always good to freshen up the Rolodex every once in a while.

Bears Host 7 Players For Tryouts

The Tribune’s Brad Biggs (via BlueSky) lists the following players who took a trip to Halas Hall for tryouts:

Jha’Quan Jackson, wide receiver — The 5-foot-9-inch Jackson was a sixth-round pick (182nd overall) by the Tennessee Titans in the 2024 NFL Draft. Jackson played 12 games for the Titans in 2024, making a mark on special teams by returning punts (28 returns, 215 yards) and kickoffs (16 returns, 412 yards). The Tulane product was a third-team All-AAC performer in 2023. Considering the uneven play of Chicago’s special teams, I like the idea of the Bears kicking the tires here.

Dohnte Meyers, wide receiver — A Canadian Football League standout, Meyers was a CFL West All-Star in 2025 and is a Grey Cup champion while playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. After going undrafted in 2023, Meyers spent some time with the Atlanta Falcons during rookie minicamp. The Vikings reportedly had Meyers in for a recent visit. I suppose there are worse ways to spend the winter than making the rounds around the NFC North.

Keondre Coburn, defensive tackle — The Kansas City Chiefs used a sixth-round pick (194th overall) in the 2023 NFL Draft to take Coburn. He has 20 games under his belt as an NFL player, including 19 with the Tennessee Titans. Coburn did play enough to get credit as a Super Bowl champion while with the Chiefs, so that is pretty neat. A second-team All-Big 12 performer in 2022, Coburn played collegiately at Texas.

Isaiah Raikes, nose tackle — This Auburn product spent time with the Titans this summer after being an undrafted free agent. Raikes was briefly on Tennessee’s practice squad before being bumped for another plaeyr.

Josh Bledsoe, safety — The New England Patriots plucked Bledsoe with a sixth-round pick (188th overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft. And, no, he is of no relation to former Pats quarterback Drew Beldsoe. The 5-foot-11-inch safety played his college ball at Missouri from 2017-2020. He has yet to appear in a regular-season NFL game.

THE BEST OF CALEB WILLIAMS IN WEEK 14

Darrick Forrest, safety — Forrest was a fifth-round pick (163rd overall) by the Washington Football Team in 2021. The University of Cincinnati product was a first-team All-AAC performer while with the Bearcats. Forrest has 40 games (17 starts) worth of experience to his name, but has no regular-season game experience since leaving the Commanders in 2024. For what it’s worth, he has spent time this season with the Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts, and Pittsburgh Steelers this season.

Taylor Elgersma, quarterback — Another CFL name! Elgersma checks in at 6-foot-5 and 227 pounds and spent some time with the Green Bay Packers during the team’s minicamp. Correct me in the comments if I’m wrong, but this appears to be the first tryout quarterback the Bears have brought in during the Ben Johnson era. Let me be clear that while I’m not ready to give up on Caleb Williams, I am curious to see what kind of quarterbacks this regime will bring in on a tryout basis. You can learn about a coaching staff’s type based on who they bring in for tryouts.

Plus, it feels notable that the Bears were reportedly present at his pro day in March. Hmm…
