Caleb Williams’ performance against the Packers ended on an interception, a play Williams admitted on Sunday evening he needed to deliver a better ball on to tight end Cole Kmet.
Personally, I think he needed to be a tick earlier on the release, and the ball itself would have been fine, but we’re splitting hairs at this point. The fact that we can even have a conversation about that end zone interception in the closing seconds is because Williams drove the Bears down to that spot on the final drive before that, with some of his best throws of the day.
It was a tale of two halves for Williams and the Chicago offense. The first half was as disjointed and unproductive as possible. Hats off to Green Bay Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley for having an incredible game plan that took Chicago’s offensive line out of their comfort zone and made accomplishing anything for the offense nearly impossible.
Williams was 6 of 14 for 32 yards in the first half, and the rushing attack was held to just 41 yards after a historically dominant performance against the Eagles the week prior. After some halftime adjustments, Chicago’s offense was much more efficient. Williams, despite being pressured constantly, finished 13 of 21 for 154 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, and a 96.1 passer rating.
On those second-half adjustments: According to Next Gen Stats, Williams used play action on a career-high 61.5 percent of his dropbacks on Sunday, with 134 of his 144 yards off of play action coming in the second half.
After recording a 35.7 percent success rate and 0 explosive plays in the first half, Chicago recorded a 62.5 percent success rate and five explosive plays in the second half.
Green Bay Packers defensive end Micah Parsons (1) pressures Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams (18) on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis. The Packers defeated the Bears 28-21. Wm. Glasheen USA TODAY NETWORK-WisconsinThe Best of Caleb Williams in Week 14
I’m going to start with the Colston Loveland touchdown, because 1) I love that Ben Johnson had Theo Benedet as the primary read on this route and 2) Williams was able to quickly recognize that an illegal cut block took out Benedet (that wasn’t called), and pivot to the other side of the field, so seamlessley, that some might not even know 79 was the first read.
Caleb Williams TD to Colston Loveland #DaBears Underrated play here. I've seen a lot QBs mess this up. – Wait too long to throw it– Try to work further outside into rush– No touch on the throw– All of the above. Perfect little rainbow here and on-time. pic.twitter.com/x6CCFY3C24
— Matt Waldman (@MattWaldman) December 8, 2025Perfect toss, too.
Here is Williams’ first touchdown, a laser beam to wide receiver Olamide Zaccheaus through the hands of Keisean Nixon in the end zone with Micah Parsons barreling down on him on the run to his right.
Caleb Williams #DaBears Micah Parsons in his face and throws it off his back foot into a sliver of space for Olamide Zaccheaus to earn this TD. Great execution all around. pic.twitter.com/PpwMZLbPn7
— Matt Waldman (@MattWaldman) December 8, 2025This throw is perfect. The end zone angle shows how good the placement was, fitting that ball into a tiny space of OZ off of his back foot.
This throw to tight end Cole Kmet is the insane highlight reel throw that we’ve come to expect from Williams. Say what you will about completion percentage (and it does need to improve), but show me someone else who can do this with regularity.
I was eagerly awaiting the All-22 of this completely preposterous Caleb Williams throw. It did not disappoint. pic.twitter.com/v5yIBQXLln
— Doug Farrar ✍ (@NFL_DougFarrar) December 8, 2025Here’s a sharp throw to rookie receiver Luther Burden III to start the final drive for the Bears on Sunday, which went for 27 yards thanks to the Burden YAC. We’ve got play-action, on-time, dart.
Really liked these two plays from Caleb Williams to start that final drive. Hits Luther Burden here for 27. Burden makes a quick move for YAC. #Bears pic.twitter.com/UwHQqntBN4
— Zack Pearson (@Zack_Pearson) December 8, 2025Two plays later, Williams finds Devin Duvernay for 24 yards. Play action, flushed right thanks to the Micah Parsons pressure.
Two plays later he hits Duvernay for 24 yards. Arm angle on this one. #Bears pic.twitter.com/vNrIDLgHhH
