Yes! HBO Max announced on Feb. 14, 2025 that The Pitt is coming back for a second season. “It’s been a thrill to watch audiences embrace The Pitt as an update to procedural storytelling with a cast who authentically embody the heroics of doctors and nurses on shift in a 2025 emergency room, said HBO Max Original Programming head Sarah Aubrey. “Our collaboration with John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, Noah Wyle and Warner Bros. Television has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and we are excited to continue down this path with another season.”

What is the release date for The Pitt Season 2?

The Pitt Season 2 will be premiering on Jan. 8, 2026. That means we won't have to wait long for more medical drama!

It's unknown how many episodes The Pitt Season 2 will have. Season 1 sported 15 episodes, with each one covering an hour of a marathon shift.

Who is in the cast of The Pitt Season 2?

Much of the main cast of The Pitt Season 1 will return for a second installment. That includes:

    Patrick Ball (Dr. Langdon)

    Fiona Dourif (Dr. McKay)

    Isa Briones (Dr. Santos)

    Shabana Azeez (Javadi)

    Katherine LaNasa (Dana Evans)

Additionally, Sepideh Moafi will join the main cast for Season 2 as Dr. Al-Hashimi, a new attending physician at the Pitt who previously worked at a VA hospital with Mel and Samira.

The last time we saw Dr. Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor), Robby had sent her home after she suffered a miscarriage during a scuffle with an irate loved one of a patient. That caused her to miss out on the climax of the season: The PittFest shooting. When speaking with Ifeachor, she told Parade that she was about to fly out to film Season 2, teasing "a lot of surprises to come." One of those surprises, evidently, is that she — and Collins — would no longer be on the show.

What is the plot of The Pitt Season 2?

It's been confirmed that Season 2 of The Pitt will take place several months later, specifically over a day during Fourth of July Weekend. Before the news was released, series creator R. Scott Gemmill spoke with Parade about making sure there was a considerable time jump between seasons.

"As you've watched the full 15 [episodes], there are some questions up in the air at the end," he said. "I would like to answer those and basically follow our characters through the next day that we are with them, and what's progressed in their lives and what hasn't. And I think once you create characters, and then they get personified. We have an amazing cast; they take on a life of their own. And then it sort of becomes following them. In terms of their journey, what is that going to be? And trying to just be honest about it."

Additionally, Emmy winner Katherine LaNasa said during a red carpet appearance in September 2025, "There's a baby on board." Gemmill corroborated the story, though it's unknown how — and with whom — this baby will come into the picture.

The Pitt Season 2 will air episodes on HBO Max.

How will episodes of The Pitt Season 2 be released?

Season 1 of The Pitt aired its first two episodes together, then dropped installments weekly on Thursday nights. It's likely Season 2 will continue to do weekly episodes as, according to Noah Wyle, the show was not meant to be released in a binge format, despite how much episodes flow into one another.

"I think we're trending away from binging," he told Parade. "I personally have a capacity for maybe two, three [episodes]. If it's an hour drama, maybe even less. But that's also because I like to enjoy the content I'm watching. And when I'm binging, I don't always absorb it. There's the other practical aspect that when you're on a streamer, subscriptions are really what drives their profitability, and they don't want anybody to cancel the subscription. So the longer that investment in the show lasts for the audience, the longer they're going to hang on to that subscription. So if you give them a 15-episode show, and you show it once a week, you're going to hang on to that audience now for a couple of months, which is great for everybody. And I think that there's something really rewarding about having a show you can talk about all week and look forward to it. There was something comforting about it back in the old days when it was all you could do. And I think there's something nostalgically comforting about it now."

As the title indicates, The Pitt takes place within a fictional hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

    What is The Pitt about?

The Pitt is described as "a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania." Every episode of the medical drama will follow an hour of Dr. Robby's 15-hour shift as the chief attendant in Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s emergency room.

Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, has said that when Gemmill, Wyle and Wells "came to us with the idea of reinvigorating the medical TV genre with a fresh, realistic look at today’s modern hospitals, we knew we had to jump on it. Their all-star collaboration, along with their impeccable storytelling and unwavering passion they bring to every project, is the perfect prescription for this show to become the next great medical drama."
