DANSVILLE, N.Y. — A Dansville woman is facing charges after federal attorneys say she threatened to kill law enforcement officers, the president, and others.
Jennifer Curran, 40, is accused of threatening FBI and New York State Police investigators with a hammer. Law enforcement went to her home as part of an investigation into online threats posted on Thursday. Investigators say an account called “@Word_Smith” posted threats on the social media platform GETTR to kill the president and former U.S. medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Federal prosecutors say that, when law enforcement found Curran, she was holding a hammer and admitted to posting the threats. According to a criminal complaint, Curran had said there were some social workers and police officers that she wanted to hurt and said she would kill someone on her property to get her point across if she needed to.
Prosecutors say Curran refused to drop the hammer and threatened to assault the investigators, but the FBI and troopers were eventually able to arrest her. Curran is charged with assaulting, resisting, or impeding a federal law enforcement officer engaged in the performance of official duties, with a deadly or dangerous weapon. That charge carries up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
