BRIGHTON, N.Y. — If you live in Brighton, you might get a check soon.
This comes after the town sued Icon Energy, also called “Source Power,” due to a default on a clean-energy contract from 2022. Now, more than 10,000 households and small businesses that were part of Brighton’s Community Choice Aggregation Program will get a payout.
Most customers may see checks between $70 to $200, with some possibly seeing as much as $800.
“It’s been a long challenge as litigation always is, but we’re pleased with the result. We’re not, of course, not happy that the program had to end early because this was a significant part of our sustainability and implementation,” says William Moehle, Brighton Town Supervisor.
Town residents saved more than $1 million compared to the retail price of sustainable electricity during the first 18 months of the two-year contract, and would have saved an additional amount of approximately $1 million more during the first six months, had Icon not defaulted. The town says this settlement will reimburse them for those lost savings.
