So, where’s Taylor on the list? She’s at No. 5 with 18.9 million tickets sold and a $3.1 billion gross, most of which is attributed to “The Eras Tour.” While Swift is fifth on this list, “The Eras Tour” is the highest-grossing tour of all time with $2 billion from 10.2 million tickets sold during 2023 and 2024.
In second place on Pollstar’s list is U2, with sales of 20.2 million tickets over the last 25 years. Bono and company set the bar high with their “360° Tour,” which ran from 2009 to 2011, and held the title of the highest-grossing tour of all time for eight years until their record was broken by Ed Sheeran. The singer-songwriter is No. 3 on the list with 19.6 million tickets sold.
Sheeran’s “÷ (Divide) Tour,” which ran for two and a half years before concluding in 2019, grossed $776 million, topping the $736 million grossed by U2’s “360°.” But Sheeran didn’t stop there. His “+-=÷x (Mathematics) Tour,” which finished earlier this year, pulled in an impressive $807 million.
U2 has also continued to hit the road, with six tours since 2001, including “The Joshua Tree Tour” that played stadiums for five months in 2017 and was reprised with another 15 shows in 2019. The band also famously opened the Las Vegas Sphere with their “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere” residency, which ran from September 2023 to March 2024 with 40 shows.
An American Band
The highest placing American act on the list is the Dave Matthews Band, which sold 19.5 million tickets over the 25-year span. The Charlottesville, Va.-based jam band is one of three acts in the top 25 that has played more than 1,000 shows since 2001, with Elton John (No. 10 on the list) and orchestra conductor André Rieu (No. 14) also breaking that barrier.
Perhaps surprisingly, Kenny Chesney is the only country act to make the top 10 on the list at No. 7 with 18.2 million in ticket sales, while Beyoncé is the highest-ranking R&B artist on the list with sales of 11.8 million tickets.
