Gene Simmons had an awkward end to a Dec. 8 interview. The legendary KISS co-founder, who was in Washington, DC, for the band’s Kennedy Center Honors ceremony, sat down for a follow-up interview with Scripps News anchor Maritsa Georgiou.
During the 11-minute interview segment, Simmons, 76, spoke about testifying before the Senate in support of the American Music Fairness Act, a bill that would require radio broadcasters to pay performance royalties to artists. He also addressed his past negative remarks about President Donald Trump, who awarded him the Kennedy Center medal. Simmons explained that he would “criticize anybody I well please.”
After warning Georgiou that she would not be getting a "clickbait" headline out of him, Simmons ended the interview on an unexpected note.
As the news anchor thanked him for his time, Simmons asked her, “By the way, are you still modeling?”
Georgiou appeared taken aback and then asked, “What??”
"Are you still modeling?” Simmons repeated.
“I don't model, sir,” she replied.
Simmons told Georgiou he “just assumed” she did.
“I appreciate that. We appreciate your time,” Georgiou replied as she signed off.

“Ohhhh there’s so much to say about this encounter. My life is weird,” Georgiou wrote.
She also shared Scripps News’ clip that showed Simmons asking her if she was still modeling. Georgiou added a series of See-No-Evil Monkey emoji to her post.
Simmons is no stranger to awkward on-air exchanges with pretty women. In 2024, he was a guest judge on Dancing with the Stars’ Hair Metal night, where he complimented the female contestants on their beauty more than their dance prowess.
While he received backlash for being overly focused on the dancers’ "hot” and “beautiful” looks, Simmons had no regrets. Speaking to The Daily Maildays later, the rocker revealed, "I stand by every word I said.”
“I had a great time,” the KISS legend added. “The contestants were great. The show was great. Watch the show. It was a lot of fun. ... Everybody had a great time."
