Ricki Lake Shocked to Find Priceless Family Photos at Flea Market After Losing Everything During LA Fires

After losing her home during the Los Angeles fires this year, Ricki Lake just experienced a holiday miracle thanks to a stranger at a flea market.

Over the weekend, artist Patty Scanlon took a last minute trip to the Pasadena City College Flea Market where she purchased a a box of vintage photos for inspiration for an upcoming project. When she began to sift through the images at home, she quickly realized that many of the images featured Lake and her son, Milo, when he was just a little boy.

After doing an online search and learning that Lake had lost "everything" when her home burned down in Malibu, Scanlon became determined to get the photos back to their rightful owner.

Scanlon took to social media on Sunday (Dec. 7) to share some of the images in the hopes of reaching Lake.

"Anybody know how to contact Ricki Lake? I picked up some found photos at Pasadena City College Flea Market and the box seems to be full of A LOT of photos of @rickilake ! I think she may WANT these. She may not have copies! Thank you!!!!" Scanlon wrote on Instagram.

Just hours later, a friend connected the pair and Lake commented that she was in "disbelief." The two women chatted on the phone—and later shared their story during an Instagram live stream.

"I get this text and I'm seeing these photos. I had said goodbye to these pictures. I was like, 'I'm never going to have them again' and I just can't believe the magic that is my life. It just feels like there’s somebody looking out for me, because this doesn’t make any sense,” Lake said.

She went on to admit she's not sure how the photos ended up at the flea market but explained that during a move several years ago, she purged a lot of items from a storage unit. Some things were thrown away and other were given to a collector to sell, so she believes the photos may have been lost during that process.

"These pictures are so priceless to me...but the fact that I lost all of these images in the fires in January—I though they were gone forever. I had made peace. It was such heartache and such a painful thing to come to terms with that all of these memories were no longer in front of me...but the fact you found these is unbelievable," Lake shared during their conversation.

Scanlon also noted that the flea market seller had several more boxes filled with photos, meaning there may be even more images that Lake can recover.

"You made this year that's been such a challenging and remarkable year," Lake told Scanlon. "It feels so heartwarming. It's just truly, truly heartwarming."
