The classic Christmas movie that has become a holiday staple, Home Alone, is celebrating its 35th anniversary. In celebration, U.K. baker Grace Hunt recreated the iconic McCallister home entirely out of cake.
On her business Instagram, she originally posted the finished creation during the Thanksgiving holiday. She detailed all the special moments included from the original film, from Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) himself, the Wet Bandits, to the 'M' on the door handle. Fans can even look closely and Little Nero's pizza delivery.
Hunt posted videos documenting the process, despite admitting she often forgot to press record because she was so immersed in the cake's creation.
"I get so engrossed in my work that I always forget to capture more from the start! Made for my shop’s Christmas window display, for my local community to enjoy as they go about their festivities!" she wrote in the caption.
View this post on InstagramThe cake itself is made up of vanilla sponge with dark chocolate ganache acting as its binder. Each detail was meticulously planned to create a cake accurate depiction of the Home Alone house, and everything was hand-painted.
"4 weeks of planning, baking, carving, ganaching, and decorating squeezed into 56 seconds! I wish I had someone who could be with me through the whole process to film every little bit! I don’t think I’ll ever get over this cake! It will be staying in the window for the long winter months," Hunt added.
The trickiest part of all, the baker admits, was stacking and carving the cake, seeing as she wanted it to be accurate in scale.
For Hunt, the project marked a double milestone — celebrating both the film’s 35th anniversary and her own 35th birthday. The cake was part of her yearly "window cake reveal" which she does in the community.
Sadly, the cake was made more as a decorative piece, with Hunt planning to chuck the Home Alone creation into the trash at the end of the holiday season. As some didn't believe it was actually cake, she will also cut it open to prove it.
