Alabama women’s basketball remains consistent during non-conference play

Alabama women’s basketball has shown consistently high effort throughout the Crimson Tide’s last few games, advancing its streak to 10-0.

“We’re never satisfied,” head coach Kristy Curry said. “The only thing I’m concerned about is going 1-0 against Jackson State. Honest to goodness, I don’t feel any different if I’m 0-10, 10-0, 9-1, 5-5. I know that sounds silly and maybe trivial, but I’m just focused on how can we get better this week.”

The Crimson Tide has come out of the gate strong in the past few games, immediately taking the lead and consistently being the first to put points on the board. Despite these high-energy starts, Alabama has been able to maintain this level of energy throughout the game.

Alabama has made 50% of field goals throughout most games, shooting consistently during all four quarters. Against Harvard, Alabama went 8/11 for field goals and 2/2 for 3-pointers in the fourth quarter alone.

Alabama has also displayed its ability to communicate repeatedly this season, specifically during fast-paced plays, giving away few turnovers to opponents and allowing even fewer points to be gained off of those turnovers.

ULM forced 18 turnovers on Sunday, but capitalized on just a few of them, scoring only 9 points off turnovers.

Clemson found itself in a similar position on Thursday after forcing 6 turnovers, but couldn’t find a way to score off of any of them.

So far, out of Alabama’s 10 wins, only four opposing teams have hit the 50-point mark, and only two of those were home games.

Guard Jessica Timmons has repeatedly proved herself to be a top scorer for Alabama, averaging 15 points per game.

During ULM, Timmons led Alabama in points with 17 total, going 7/8 in 2-point field goals and 3/4 in 3-point field goals.

Despite this, Timmons described her performance as “mediocre,” saying she turned the ball over twice and should’ve got her teammates involved more.

“I’m most proud of her growth and her response to harsh conditions,” head coach Kristy Curry said after the ULM game. “I thought she did a really much, much better job than she often gives herself credit for.”
