Jason Bateman and his sister, Justine Bateman, are both big names on the Hollywood scene.
Despite rarely publicly commenting on their relationship, Jason gave an update about where the siblings stand while speaking with Esquire about his life and career since child stardom.
Jason starts the conversation with a bit of insight on their family dynamic: "My sister and I had a peer relationship with our parents; they were our managers."
He continued: "There isn’t the typical 'We see each other every Thanksgiving or every Christmas and our kids want to be together.' There isn’t that. In a great way.
"Our conversations are the rich conversations you would have with an adult friend, not the kind of petulant back-and-forth you might have with your adult sibling. We hang out, and we’re nice to each other because we respect one another as individuals regardless of the blood thing."
Although the siblings "don’t see each other a ton," the actor noted their bond remains.
"I’m seeing her for lunch next week," the Arrested Development lead concluded.
The Bateman siblings got their start in acting as children, and have remained in the industry since. While Justine turned her focus to film-making and writing, she continues to appear in various roles.
She even appeared alongside her brother on season three of Arrested Development, playing a woman he mistook for an estranged sibling of his. The tongue-and-cheek episode was titled 'Family Ties' in an homage to her breakout gig.
Premiering in 1982, Family Ties saw Justine as the teenage sister of Alex (played by Michael J. Fox), Jennifer (Tina Yothers), and Andy (Brian Bonsall).
The show continued on for seven seasons, ending its run in 1989.
Justine wrote and directed the 2021 feature, Violet, premiering at SXSW in Texas. Starring Olivia Dunn, Violet sees a successful young woman who realizes her life is dictated by a fear-mongering inner voice (played by Justin Theroux).
