Major news for Bob Dylan fans: The legendary musician has confirmed that the massively successful Rough and Rowdy Ways tour will return in 2026...but this time, with a twist.
As Rolling Stone reported, the 27-date United States jaunt will begin on March 21 in Omaha and finish up on May 1 in Abilene, Texas. In a surprising move, the run will focus on smaller towns instead of the usual metropolitan locations big rock stars usually visit, such as La Crosse, Wisconsin; Spartanburg, South Carolina; Tyler, Texas; and Macon, Georgia.
If this next incarnation of the tour is anything like the last, concert-goers can look forward to hearing plenty of songs from 2020’s Rough and Rowdy Ways in addition to classics like "Desolation Row," “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight,” and "When I Paint My Masterpiece."
“One night a song has drums and is a fast, up-tempo song,” Ray Padgett, the Dylan "super fan" behind the Flagging Down the Double E’s newsletter and website, told Rolling Stone in January. “The next night it’s basically a solo piano ballad, the same song. It turns out, just as much is changing, even though the set list on boblinks.com ends up looking identical."
Dylan hinted at the tour's return in a post on X in November, saying, "To all fans and followers of Rough and Rowdy Ways Show. We will see you early Spring 2026, will let you know where and when later."
Commenters were predictably thrilled, with one writing, "Great news. Thank you to you Bob and your band. The Rough and Rowdy Ways shows have been sounding fantastic. Looking forward to the rest of the shows this year and hopefully will see you down the line on the road next year."
"Bob, your shows are always the highlight of my year. See you 2026," added a second Dylan enthusiast.
As Parade reported in September, some Dylan fans found the Rough and Rowdy Ways shows to be a frustrating experience, as the iconic singer-songwriter started going to great lengths to obscure himself onstage in an attempt to avoid being photographed or filmed. (Audience members were supposed to be following a no-phones policy.)
In November, Daniel Hildebrand, founder of the fan site Daily Dylan, said he was asked to leave a Glasgow concert and declared an “unwanted person” for sharing footage from previous concerts online (Hildebrand clarified that he didn't film any of the videos himself, only reposted clips from other fans).
As Dylan will likely continue to enforce his no-camera rule in the next leg of Rough and Rowdy Ways, anyone who manages to snag tickets should resist the temptation to start filming the musician...or else.
