ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The International Plaza hosted a holiday celebration with a Latin flair on Sunday. It’s called the Day of the Little Candles, a longtime Colombian tradition that marks the beginning of the holiday season.
“They wanted to change up the holiday season and we wanted to do something a little different here at the plaza than your traditional tree lighting,” said Jason Barber with the International Plaza. “We wanted to kind of highlight a Latin tradition that doesn’t get highlighted that often.”
Organizers say they’re glad to give lesser-known traditions like this a platform. Guests at the plaza were treated to local Latin foods, live music, and of course, plenty of candles.
