Another actor who was planning to grace the project, Mia Goth, recently spoke about the Marvel movie's status in a new interview.
Chatting with Josh Horowitz for an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the celebrated British actress, 32, shared some details surrounding the production — though they're not exactly promising in nature.
"I don't know what's going on with that. I think that they want to make it," Goth said in the episode posted this past week. "And it's such an important film for [Marvel] that they're taking their time with it. I really don't have any information. I don't know why it's taken the time that it has, but we will see."
Goth continued, "The furthest that it got with me... They flew [me] to Atlanta, and we did a chemistry test between Mahershala and I, and we did a costume fitting and a wig fitting. And I was very excited in the direction it was going. It was very cool. And Mahershala had such an interesting take on it, and he was great. And then it just unraveled from there, unfortunately."
Back in July, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige noted that the Blade delays were a symptom of Marvel’s “over-expansion” — AKA the studio’s response to Disney’s mandate to produce more content at the onset of the Disney+ streaming service, according to Variety. Feige, 52, hesitated to use a term like “fallout” to characterize the situation, but “for the very first time ever, quantity trumped quality,” he said at the time.
