Packers 28, Bears 21: Another Gut Punch in Green Bay

Heartbreak City at Lambeau Field after a Bears-Packers slugfest saw Chicago’s football team fall short of what would have been an inspiring victory. Instead, it was just the lastest soul-crushing loss against Green Bay.

This is how it ended:

FINAL: Green Bay Packers 28, Chicago Bears 21 (ESPN BOX SCORE)

    Thoughts on the Bears loss

Let me say this at the top: This was (literally) a cold reminder that the Chicago Bears are very much a work in progress. I appreciate the fight, moxie, and the gumption of this team. To not fold against the Green Bay Packers at frigid Lambeau Field takes some real chutzpah. And that team was painfully close to pulling off an all-time great win.

CHICAGO BEARS WEEK 14 INSTANT GRADES

With that being said, It should not be lost in the madness of a stellar fight put up by Chicago that the uninspiring first half was a tone-setter for all the wrong reasons. And I won’t sleep well knowing that the game could’ve finished differently had things gotten off to a better start in the first half. I imagine the players and coaches will have a similar feeling. More on that clunker of a first half: The Bears were out-gained 207-71 as they watched the Packers nearly double them up in the first down department (Green Bay had 11 to Chicago’s six). Jordan Love (17/17, 163 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 115.6 passer rating) out-played Caleb Williams (6/14, 32 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, 50.3 rating). This was a true reality check. And, frankly, a gut-punch as I expected more from Caleb and this bunch entering this game.

I hate giving the Packers credit for anything, but Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley called a whale of a game. For key stretches of that contest, Green Bay’s DC had a counterpunch for everything Chicago was throwing in his direction. The screen game was non-existent. The ground and pound attack was slow to develop. The deep stuff was covered. That was the best I’ve seen that defense play all year. Green Bay has a championship-caliber defense. And I hate it so much. Dec 7, 2025; Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA; Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson looks on during the second quarter against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. Three Bears

Caleb Williams — This is the line Chicago’s QB1 posted in Week 14 against the Packers: 19/35, 186 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 interceptions, 76.6 passer rating. It was setting up for Williams to re-write a new chapter in the storied history of this rivalry. Instead, he threw an interception to a guy who hadn’t had a pick all year. That is going to be a tough one to swallow for Caleb. I look forward to seeing how he bounces back from this loss.

D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai — Chicago’s backfield duo teamed up for 27 carries and 120 yards. They were held out of the end zone, but Swift and Monangai ran hard (and well) for most of the afternoon and into the evening. That ground-and-pound game wore on the Packers defense, which looked gassed for a healthy chunk of the second half. It’s a shame that the game ended the way it did for the Bears.

DJ Moore — I was hoping to see more from DJ in that game. With wide receiver Rome Odunze out with a foot injury, I figured that Moore would be an integral part of the offense. Instead, he ws targeted just three times and caught just one pass — and it went for a 4-yard loss. Odunze is reportedly week-to-week with that foot injury, so DJ Moore better get some more looks.

Here is how much that loss stung: It knocked the Bears out from being the No. 1 seed all the way down to the No. 7 spot. And because the Dallas Cowboys did Chicago’s football team no favors, the Detroit Lions are just one game behind the Bears in the standings. At the risk of overreacting and coing off as overdramatic, that makes this week’s upcoming game against the Browns a must-win in my book. We have so much to discuss in the coming days. I’m looking forward to it. But also … I want to put my head through a wall. The Chicago Bears had a real chance to win that game. It hurts that they didn’t finish the job.

We will be around on Monday to recap the hearbreaking Week 14 loss against the Packers and look ahead to the team’s upcoming game match against Shedeur Sanders, Myles Garrett, and the rest of the Browns. Try not to be too mad (but let’s be real — I won’t blame you for raging.)
