NFL WEEK 14: CHICAGO BEARS VS. GREEN BAY PACKERS — I love what Bears tight end Cole Kmet had to say about the team’s current seating as the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoff picture.
“The significance of it at the moment isn’t much,” Kmet said (via ESPN). “Look, I know how this all is. We’re on the so-called mountain top right now, but those things change quickly week to week. … It’s on us to stick to our process on stuff. But to see where we’ve gone as a team, specifically offensively from Weeks 1 and 2 to now, it’s really cool to see and see our identity take shape, especially in the run game.”
That is the type of perspective I need key players to have going into this grudgematch against the Packers. It is OK to acknowledge where the team is now, while also underscoring that there is still more to accomplish. No one sets out to be the No. 1 seed after 12 games. Chicago’s football team has bigger fish to fry. And that team from northern Wisconsin is standing in the way.
WEEK 14 BEARS GAME DAY NOTEBOOK
As of Sunday afternoon, The Athletic’s NFL Playoff Simulator gives the Bears team a 75 percent chance of making the playoffs. A win against the Packers would boost the team’s playoff odds to 91 percent. However, a loss would knock Chicago’s playoff probabilities down to 70 percent. The deeper we get into this season, the higher the stakes that each game carries. I’m here for it — and not just because it beats obsessing over NFL Draft positioning.
And if playoff odds don’t get your juices flowing, then this hype video should do the trick:
