Australia, set 65 to win, knocked off their target in 60 balls to take a stranglehold on the series.

Zak Crawley – 6

Looked the part, scoring 76 and 44 but he will be kicking himself for not going on and getting a match-defining score.

Ben Duckett – 0

Averaging 16 this series after a duck and 15 here. Form has dropped off a cliff. Spilled two catches as well. Stinker.

Ollie Pope – 1

Another who got a first-innings duck. Skittish second-innings ended on 26. Now 14 Ashes innings without a fifty. Place under threat.

Joe Root – 8

Breaking century duck in Australia with brilliant unbeaten 138 the only positive for England. Failed in second innings but cannot do it all on his own.

Harry Brook – 3

Scores of 31 and 15. So talented but his attitude and recklessness is seeing that talent wasted in the biggest series of all. Maddening.

Ben Stokes – 6

Three wickets with the ball and final-day fifty held up Australia. But let the game drift in the field hosts took control.

Jamie Smith – 1

Early drop of Travis Head changed the momentum of this match. Four runs across both innings. Looks shaky.

Will Jacks – 6

Catch to dismiss Steve Smith in Australia’s first innings goes straight into the Ashes hall of fame. Bowled okay and showed guts with the bat on the final day.

Gus Atkinson – 3

One of three England bowlers to concede a century of runs and struggled to threaten. At least got his first wickets of the series.

Brydon Carse – 3

Four wickets but at the cost of an eye-watering 152 runs. Heart cannot be faulted but his 100 came off 14.1 overs – the fastest anti-century by an England seam bowler.

Jofra Archer – 7

How he only ended up with one wicket is a travesty. Two dropped catches off his bowling did not help. Consistently troubled Australia.
