Matthew Lillard, the fan-favorite actor best known for his starring roles in Scream and the Scooby-Doo franchise, has officially clapped back against Quentin Tarantino's highly publicized criticisms of his acting abilities.
Earlier this month, Tarantino made headlines by brutally highlighting several prominent actors he was less than enthusiastic about, including Lillard, Owen Wilson and Paul Dano, the latter of whom the Pulp Fiction director called "the weakest male actor" in the Screen Actors Guild.
"I don't care for [Dano], I don't care for Owen Wilson, and I don't care for Matthew Lillard," Tarantino bluntly said on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast.
In response, the 55-year-old Lillard openly addressed Tarantino's criticisms, discussing how the iconic filmmaker's critique of his work personally affected him during a recent appearance at GalaxyCon.
"Quentin Tarantino this week said he didn't like me as an actor," Lillard started by saying. Hearing this, the crowd in attendance loudly booed, expressing their support for Lillard.
"Eh, whatever, who gives a sh*t," the Scream actor said of the incident.
Though initially dismissive of Tarantino's complaints, Lillard went on to say it did personally "hurt" to hear a director as well-known and influential as Tarantino publicly criticize him.
"It hurts your feelings," Lillard reflected. "It f***ing sucks. And you wouldn't say that to Tom Cruise. You wouldn't say that to somebody who's a top-line actor in Hollywood."
In spite of that, Lillard also said he tries to maintain a healthy balance between the criticisms that come from top-level Hollywood talents and the avid fan support he receives in his profession.
"I'm very popular in this room," the Scooby-Doo actor said. "I'm not very popular in Hollywood. Two totally different microcosms, right? And so, you know, it's humbling, and it hurts."
In addition his recent acting credits in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, Lillard is also set to return for the seventh installment of Scream, scheduled for release on February 28, 2026.
